Leviticus Chapters 14-17

Good evening.  Tonight we are going to continue to work our way through the book of Leviticus.  So far, we have studied the first 13 chapters, and tonight, hopefully we will be able to get through the next 4, chapters 14, 15, 16, and 17.

Before we do that though, let’s open with a word of prayer.  (Have someone pray?)

As we get started, what is your favorite prescription for whatever ails ya?

Well, in this first chapter tonight, we are reading about cleansing from infectious diseases.  So, whoever has the first key, go ahead and read that section for us please.  (READ 14:1-32)

Given the regulations for someone with an infectious disease, how difficult would it be for a cleansed person to now re-enter the social life of the Israelite camp?

Who do you think would have the most difficult time adjusting, the person healed, or the people in the camp?

Does anyone have anything that they would like to add before we move on?

Well, if there is nothing else, we will go ahead and take a look at the rest of chapter 14.  In this next section, we are reading about what needs to happen to be cleansed from mildew.  So, whoever has the next key, go ahead and read that.  (READ 14:33-57)

What similarities do you see between cleansing the house, and the leper?

At this time, Israel still lived in tents.  Why then did God give them laws about homes even before they owned any?

How do you feel about receiving advanced warnings about things?

At this time, allow me to read for you what the commentary had to say about chapter 14 as a whole.  It said, (READ COMMENTARY)

Now, before we move on to the next chapter, does anyone have anything that they would like to add?

Well, if that is all, we will move on to the next chapter.  In chapter 15, we are reading about normal bodily functions, and how they make a person unclean, and then what needs to be done to make that person clean.  So, whoever has the next key, go ahead and read that passage for us please.  (READ 15:1-33)

Given this extensive list, how much time to you think the average Israelite spent unclean?

Here is a question that we looked at a couple of weeks ago, but where do you think these desert people got all the water that was needed for theses baths?  (Answer is in the Quest Bible, bottom right side of page 163)

At this time, allow me to read for you what the commentary had to say about this chapter.  It says, (READ COMMENTARY)

Now, before we move to the next chapter, does anyone have anything that they would like to add?

Well, if there is nothing else, let’s go ahead and take a look at chapter 16.  In this chapter, we are looking at the Day of Atonement?  So, whoever has the next 2 keys, go ahead and read those at this time.  (READ 16:1-17, 16:18-34)

Why is it that without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness?  (Hebrews 9:22)

What does the fact that this Day of Atonement happened only once a year say about its importance?

What does the fact that it has to be repeated every year tell you about human nature?

At this time, allow me to read what the commentary had to say about chapter 16.  It says, (READ COMMENTARY)

Now, before we move on to the last chapter for tonight, does anyone have anything that they would like to add from this chapter?

Well, if that is all, we will go ahead and take a look at one more chapter tonight.  In chapter 17, it is talking about how eating blood is forbidden.  So, whoever has the last key, go ahead and read that for us please.  (READ 17:1-16)

What problems might arise if sacrifices were offered in an uncontrolled way?

What consequences fall n those who fail to follow this command?  (v. 4, 9, 10, 14-16)

At this time, allow me to go ahead and read for you what the commentary had to say about chapter 17.  It said, (READ COMMENTARY)

Now, before we close this evening, does anyone have anything that they would like to add?

Well, if that is all, for next week, we will take a look at chapters 18, 19, 20, and maybe chapter 21 as well.

About Me:

I am a 2006 graduate from Kentucky
Christian University with a major in
Preaching, and a minor in Youth
Ministry. It was in college that I met,
fell in love with, and eventually
married my best friend, and now
my wife, Nellie. I am currently
serving as the Senior Minister of
the Fly Branch Church of Christ in
Vanceburg Kentucky, where I have
been for the past five adn a half
years. I began my ministry at Fly
Branch as the Youth Minister in my
second year of College. After a
short time there became the need
for me to fill the Senior Ministry
position, and God blessed me to be
able to do that. Ever since then, I
have been preaching God’s word
both to the adults, and with the
assistance of my wife, to the youth
as well. My future plans are to follow
God in whatever direction He leads
me and my family.
