Luke Chapter 5

As we continue our look at the book of Luke, we now come to chapter 5.  In chapter 5, we are reading about the calling of the first disciples, a few miracles, and then Jesus being questioned by the religious leaders once again.

Whoever has the next key, go ahead and read that for us.  (READ 5:1-11)

Well, in the story that we just read, we see some fishermen whom Jesus asked to make a choice, a choice that would change their lives, and what hey were doing forever.

What do you think Simon was feeling as Jesus told them to go out to deep water, and put down their nets?

What do you think he was feeling and thinking when they began to bring in this catch?

How do you think this miracle affected him?

Why did he say, “Go away form me Lord, I am a sinful man.”?

Does anyone have anything else that they would like to add?

Well, if there is nothing else, we will move on and take a look at the next section to chapter 5.  In this section, we are reading about a man with leprosy, and another guy that Jesus healed.  Whoever has the next key, go ahead and read that at this time please.  (READ 5:12-26)

By touching the leper before healing him, what does Jesus demonstrate?

Why does Jesus try to keep him quiet?

The paralyzed man came for healing, so why does Jesus bring up the idea of forgiveness?

Does anyone have anything to add from that section before we move on?

Well, if that is all, we will go ahead and finish up chapter 5.  Whoever has the last key, go ahead and read that for us please.  (READ 5:27-39)

Why do you suppose Jesus called a despised tax collector like Levi to follow Him?

Why do you think Jesus attended a dinner party with a bunch of tax collectors and “sinners”?

Why is Jesus questioned about fasting?

What is all the new and old stuff about?

At this time, allow me to read for you what the commentary had to say about chapter 5 as a whole.  It says, (READ COMMENTARY)

Now, before we close this evening, does anyone have anything that they would like to add?

Well, if there is nothing else, for next week, we will take a look at chapters 6 and 7.

About Me:

I am a 2006 graduate from Kentucky
Christian University with a major in
Preaching, and a minor in Youth
Ministry. It was in college that I met,
fell in love with, and eventually
married my best friend, and now
my wife, Nellie. I am currently
serving as the Senior Minister of
the Fly Branch Church of Christ in
Vanceburg Kentucky, where I have
been for the past five adn a half
years. I began my ministry at Fly
Branch as the Youth Minister in my
second year of College. After a
short time there became the need
for me to fill the Senior Ministry
position, and God blessed me to be
able to do that. Ever since then, I
have been preaching God’s word
both to the adults, and with the
assistance of my wife, to the youth
as well. My future plans are to follow
God in whatever direction He leads
me and my family.
